Brion Woods is a West Virginia native and has been playing Dungeons & Dragons since 1979. He has been an artist since the mid eighties, but has never sought to publish any work before. He is an avid outdoorsman, hiker, backpacker, kayaker, and long distance hiker, taking on the Appalachian Trail in 2016, completing 1400 miles of the 2200 mile long Trail solo. He is also a 35 year member of The Society for Creative Anachronism, fighting for decades on the SCA battlefields as part of House of Sable Maul and a local citizen of the Kingdom of Aethelmearc. He has been a Licensed Practical Nurse since 2005, and has been working on the drawings that make up this book since 2016.

The work draws from the old well: Celtic knotwork, woodcut tradition, and the tabletop worlds that welcomed him and his players.
